Portimao is a city that is thousands of years old. It has many patrimonial sites and monuments to visit. If you like history and culture, a tour of these sights would be a great activity to do.
Whatever cultural route you take in Portimao should start with the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Concepción, a temple that was built in the 15th Century and restored after the terrible earthquake of 1755. You should also see the Colegio de los Jesuitas from the 17th Century, or the San Francisco Monastery are also important places to visit.
There are other monuments that aren´t religious temples. Some of these sites are the following: Rocha Beach Fortress, The Fortress of Santa Catalina de Ribamar from the 17th Century, or the very walls of Portimao.
