If you love nature, hiking through the Sierra de Monchique would be a great activity for you. Here you can take in the aroma of inland Algarve, and of the mountains. This place is very popular but at the same time, less touristic.

There are several nature spots to see in the outskirts of Portimao, white-washed towns with the traditional architecture you can see in MOnchique. In the chapel of San Sebastian, you can take a tour of its sculptures and paintings, and later you can take a fresh breath of mountain air in the Sierra de Monxhique and the surrounding valley. You can hike up almost to 1000 meters of altitude on the highest peak of Algarve, called Da Foia.

You can do all of these routes on foot, by car, or by bicycle.
